University study as a dependant: status, funding and admission
Dependant status, admission and funding eligibility require separate checks. Confirm age at the first visa, target intake, course type and residence evidence.
Compare schools on four dimensions
- Curriculum: compatibility with the target year group and subject requirements.
- Language: teaching and assessment languages and required evidence.
- Status: permission to study in Hong Kong and any student visa requirement.
- Documents: academic, address, reference and assessment records required by each school.
Distinguish annual entry from a transfer
Primary One allocation, direct admission and transfers follow different processes. Check school or EDB arrangements for the child’s status, year and intake. Eligible children already in Hong Kong without a school place can contact schools or an EDB Regional Education Office directly, without hiring an adviser.
What to prepare first, and for the formal application
Start with age, current year/curriculum, academic background, languages, target intake and status. For the application, prepare student/parent identity, permission to study, academic and address records, plus school-specific items.
Questions you may have
Does dependant status guarantee a preferred school?
No. Admission still depends on entry requirements and available places. We help prepare alternative schools and transition plans.
Do universities share one score requirement and deadline?
No. Requirements vary by institution, course, qualification and applicant category. We record academic and language criteria, documents, interviews and deadlines for each.
