University study as a dependant: status, funding and admission
Ask the institution to confirm funding eligibility, residence evidence and review requirements for the chosen course. A dependant visa or offer alone does not establish funding eligibility.
Admission criteria: undergraduate, taught and research degrees
| Route | Confirm for each programme |
|---|---|
| Undergraduate | Accepted school-leaving/exam qualification, subjects/grades, language proof and interview/portfolio; choose JUPAS or direct application according to your actual qualifications/status. |
| Taught postgraduate | Recognised bachelor’s or accepted equivalent, subject background, grades/GPA, English evidence and any experience requirement. |
| Research master’s/doctorate | Qualifications and research ability, topic, proposal, referees and supervisor/department requirements; prior supervisor agreement is not universal. |
There is no single Hong Kong-wide GPA, IELTS or experience threshold. We record each target programme’s published numbers, exemptions and dates, and ask admissions about unpublished requirements. Minimum eligibility does not guarantee selection; status, funding eligibility and admission are separate decisions.
Admission documents: applicant, institution and referees
| Evidence | Provider and applicability |
|---|---|
| Identity and education | Your identity documents, transcripts, degree/graduation certificates; current students provide enrolment/expected-graduation evidence and later final documents as required. |
| Academic/language results | Exams, language tests, grading explanations and verification within the required validity; arrange official score delivery separately if requested. |
| Statement and experience | CV, personal statement and relevant work/project evidence; portfolio/writing samples only where required. |
| References | Referees follow the institution’s process, often submitting directly. Obtain consent and track deadlines. |
| Research extras | Proposal, publications/outputs and relevant supervisor correspondence under department rules. |
We help organise and check documents and refine your wording. We do not fabricate experience, results or references. Names and dates must match identity documents; confirm translation, certified-copy, original and file-size requirements per institution.
Work backwards from each deadline
Schedule course selection, tests or certification, statements and references, submission, interviews, offer conditions, visa and housing. Assign owners and allow buffer time. Use the course’s current dates for rolling admissions, rounds and each degree.
After admission: student-visa eligibility and documents
An offer is not entry permission. Applicants needing a student visa must have an eligible course offer for their status, sufficient funds for study and living/accommodation and a qualifying local sponsor. Check course, nationality/residence and study mode separately. If you already have study-permitting status, confirm whether any change is needed.
| Prepared by | Student-visa evidence |
|---|---|
| Student | Application details, photo, travel document, HKID/entry records if held, offer letter, financial support and applicable regional identity records. |
| Local sponsor | Institution or qualifying individual supplies sponsorship evidence. An individual must be 18+, a genuine Hong Kong resident, acquainted with you and able to provide accommodation and living support. |
| Student under 18 | Consent signed by parent and local guardian, accommodation evidence and required undertakings. |
Use the Immigration/institution channel and applicant/sponsor forms (ID 995A/995B where applicable). Complete offer conditions, acceptance, visa and accommodation arrangements, then separately check later IANG eligibility.
