Dependant applications: relationship, sponsor and documents
Under talent/professional routes, the usual categories are a spouse/legally recognised qualifying partner and unmarried dependent children under 18. Ordinary cohabitation, engagement or parents do not automatically fit these routes; other sponsor categories, such as permanent residents, have separate rules. The relationship must be genuine, with no adverse record, and the sponsor must provide living support and suitable accommodation.
| Prepared by | Common and conditional evidence |
|---|---|
| Each dependant | Photo, travel document, HKID and entry/e-Visa records if held; marriage, birth or recognised partnership evidence. |
| Sponsor | HKID, travel document and current permission/conditions of stay; salary, tax/bank evidence; tenancy or rent evidence for accommodation. |
| Family circumstances | Divorce, custody, adoption or parental-consent evidence where relevant and requested; explain inconsistent names. |
We track each family member separately. Stay normally follows the sponsor, so changes in status, relationship or children’s circumstances need checking. Student-sponsored dependants have a distinct context.
Submit conditional documents where applicable; Immigration may request more. Documents not in Chinese or English need an accepted certified translation. Start with a background summary; send identity and financial records through the controlled project channel.
Renewal applications: evidence for your original scheme
| Current situation | Check and prepare |
|---|---|
| Common records | Current/relevant previous travel documents, HKID, e-Visa and expiry; updated contact, status and family details. |
| Employment | Employer letter/contract with role, pay, benefits and term; salary deposits, tax and applicable MPF records. Check prior approval for employer changes under restricted employment routes. |
| Business | Registration, company/ownership, financial/tax, trading and bank records, local staff and contribution; distinguish actual activity from plans. |
| QMAS | General Points Test: first extension requires steps to settle in Hong Kong, e.g. employment or business. Later extensions require settlement and contribution, such as stable graduate/specialist/senior employment or a reasonably sized business. Achievement-based extensions require independent living/accommodation resources. |
| New CIES | Permissible-investment and maintenance certification/account records; coordinate InvestHK assessment and Immigration deadlines. |
| Dependants | Both parties’ valid status/stay documents, continuing relationship and sponsor support/accommodation evidence as requested. |
We record the filing window, expiry, missing items and owner. Windows vary: TTPS permits online renewal within three months before expiry. Check location, travel and temporary-extension requirements for the applicable channel. Submission is not approval.
TTPS renewal also requires the acknowledgement of the designated Hong Kong Talent Engage survey; B/C holders who have not supplied qualification verification must provide it. Employed applicants also prepare the employer’s registration, finances and applicable new-company plan. QMAS online renewal requires physical presence in Hong Kong. TTPS and QMAS advise filing early within the window and at least six weeks before expiry; waiting for a decision does not extend lawful stay without exceptional approval.
Permanent-resident verification: eligibility and seven-year evidence
This covers common seven-year routes; birth or parent-based statutory categories need separate checks. Chinese citizens generally prove seven continuous years of ordinary residence. For non-Chinese applicants, those years must normally immediately precede the application, with the required declaration that Hong Kong is their permanent home. You must be lawfully in Hong Kong when applying for permanent-ID eligibility verification.
- Identity: HKID if held, travel documents, entry and current stay conditions.
- Seven-year evidence: chronological school, employment, tax, bank, address and other actual-life records covering the claimed period.
- Absences: explain the reasons and duration of significant or prolonged absences, and your home, work and family connections in Hong Kong. Temporary absence does not necessarily break ordinary residence.
- Category/family records: birth, parental status, marriage and declarations as applicable; use the correct official form or online route.
We check evidence coverage. Seven years since an ID was issued, a fixed number of visits or a valid visa alone does not establish ordinary residence.
One useful action today
Record each person’s document and visa expiry, travel and school dates, and updates needed. Prepare documents several months ahead and submit within the scheme’s application window.
