Eligibility for the professional stream
The professional stream covers Chinese Mainland residents: no security concern or known serious crime; normally a relevant degree or accepted technical/professional experience; a genuine, confirmed Hong Kong job matching qualifications/experience and not readily filled locally; and market-level pay and benefits. This stream has no sector restriction or quota. The separate technical-professionals stream for ages 18–40 has its own trades, experience and quotas.
Application documents: applicant, employer and dependants
| Prepared by | Checklist |
|---|---|
| Applicant | Photo, travel document, HKID and Hong Kong entry records if held; education, professional and employment evidence; Mainland employer/authority consent. |
| Employer | Signed offer/contract stating role, pay, benefits and term; business registration; audited accounts, profit/loss or tax evidence; business background and role justification. |
| Employer formed within 12 months | Detailed business plan: funding, capital, products/services, forecasts and local jobs; distinguish completed activity from projections. |
| Dependants | Each person’s photo, identity/entry records and marriage, birth or recognised partnership evidence. |
Official facilitation measures may waive some evidence for eligible applicants/employers. We check the basis for each exemption; job, pay, dates and business information must agree.
Submit conditional documents where applicable; Immigration may request more. Documents not in Chinese or English need an accepted certified translation. Start with a background summary; send identity and financial records through the controlled project channel.
Check conditions before changing work
Before taking a new role, changing work or running your own company, check your e-Visa conditions and whether prior approval is needed. Registration or share ownership does not confer permission to work in Hong Kong.
Reduce avoidable follow-up
Agree the job description, check document dates and show how the role supports the actual business. New companies should distinguish signed contracts and secured funds from future operating plans; forecasts are not existing results.
